Return Cost
The empty trip is one of the most underestimated costs. A 50% empty return means
covering 1.5× the distance with the revenue of 1.
Realistic margin
In Italian road transport, the net margin ranges between 5% and 15%. Below 10% the
company is vulnerable to any cost shock.
Vehicle wear
For a semi-trailer consider 0.07-0.12 €/km for wear and maintenance. For a van
0.04-0.07 €/km. Don't forget insurance and road tax.

Germany LKW-Maut
Trucks >3.5t pay a distance-based toll (Toll Collect). Vans are exempt. Rate includes an emission surcharge — Euro 6 trucks pay less.
Switzerland LSVA
One of the highest per-km rates in Europe. Calculated by total weight × km × emission class factor. Mandatory for all trucks.
